Group conversations are already routed via WhatsApp’s servers by default, this now also applies to individual conversations. In this way, your IP address remains hidden from the person you are talking to.

However, WhatsApp warns that a call made via its servers could be of poor quality. The platform also emphasizes that thanks to encryption, no one can listen to your conversations, not even WhatsApp itself.
