Fresh from the oven (and never better said) comes the Meater 2 Plus, the latest launch of the Meater brand we already know from occasional reviews. When it comes to cooking, precision can mean the difference between an average dish and a culinary masterpiece. That’s why Meater 2 Plus comes to help us with its technology to be perfect hosts. It doesn’t matter whether you are a cooking enthusiast or your signature dish is a mixed sandwich, to a greater or lesser extent it can be a useful companion in your kitchen.
It can be used in many types of cooking, be it grill, grill, oven, pan, toaster, slow cooker, deep fryer and even air fryer. In this case, we tested it on a grill pan and it worked perfectly.
One of the new features of the Meater 2 Plus is the Smart Temp™ Multisensors technology, which has five internal temperature sensors and one ambient sensor that detect the actual temperature of the center of the meat. This guarantees perfect results every time. These sensors reach a maximum of 105ºC indoor and 500ºC maximum ambient temperature, especially useful for barbecues, embers and the like. In addition, it guarantees a millimeter accuracy of ±0.3°C.
Getting the Meter 2 Plus up and running is very simple. Simply activate the application and synchronize the thermometer with your smartphone via Bluetooth, configure the cooking (the product you will cook, select the type or cut and set the point at which you want the meat), tap the thermometer on your piece of meat meat… And that’s it! Let’s cook. We were able to test it with beef tenderloin, which is not the most problematic cut, but beef is always tender. The result was great, we followed the Meater 2 Plus instructions exactly and the result was unbeatable.
It should be noted that for the multi-sensor technology to work properly, you need to insert the thermometer past the notch to get the correct reading. And depending on the cut of meat you’re preparing, this can be a little problematic because it can disrupt the texture of the cut a bit. Even so, it’s 30% thinner than its predecessor, a much-appreciated improvement.
The Meater app, free and available for iOS and Android, will be your best companion to get the most out of this meat thermometer. With a fairly intuitive interface, it allows you to easily configure the type of meat you want to cook, distinguishing between beef, pork, poultry, lamb, fish and more (where you can find venison, ostrich, kangaroo…). Once selected, you have to choose between different types of pieces and cuts and even add one if you can’t find it on the list. Finally mark the point at which you want the meat, which will vary between the different options depending on the meat and cut selected. In case you are unsure, the app will also recommend the cooking temperature.
It also has a section for previous meals in case you were particularly happy with a particular dish and want to repeat it. And with another personalized kitchen in case you want to go a little more at your own pace and cook to suit your tastes more. Recommended especially for advanced cooks.
Another advantage of cooking with an app, apart from ensuring the right place, is the ability to do other things while the meat is cooking, as it has notifications so you don’t miss anything. Plus, with long-range Bluetooth, you can walk around the house without worrying about losing your connection. Of course, keep your phone with you at all times to stay alert, as the Meater 2 Plus will warn you, but it still won’t just remove the meat from the fire.
The Meater 2 Plus maintains the simple and elegant design we’ve come to expect from the brand. The thermometer is made of stainless steel, is 30% thinner than its predecessor (as we mentioned earlier), and is waterproof and dishwasher safe. The charger has a bamboo and metal finish and has two magnets to place it wherever you want. What can be, but is that it works with a battery instead of charging via USB. Although it was designed with an energy efficiency system that, according to the brand, guarantees up to 2 years of cooking with a single AAA battery (double that of its predecessor), I personally find it a negative point that it does not have USB charging. I assume this will change in future versions.
To complement Meater 2 Plus, the brand has launched Meater Master Class™, a section within the app where you can find more than 50 lessons to learn new culinary skills through detailed tutorials and videos. It also includes lists of the ingredients and tools you’ll need for each recipe, step-by-step instructions, and how-to videos. All this indicates the level of difficulty and duration of each “master class”.
The Meater 2 Plus is a revolution for cooking enthusiasts and those who are not so much. It is characterized by a high level of precision, tolerance to very high temperatures, careful design and quality surface treatment. Features that make this smart thermometer an essential kitchen companion for any audience. Plus, with the MEATER Master Class™ you’ll have no more excuses, you’ll be able to take your culinary skills to the next level. You can buy the Meater 2 Plus in the Meater online store for €129.00.
