AI needs data to train, lots of data. That’s why OpenAI is launching a new project in which the company wants to work with organizations to access much more data to train its models.
The American company OpenAI needs a lot of data to train its models. New data is also important to keep training information up to date. It’s not always easy to find enough data for OpenAI to use, partly due to stricter rules. That’s why the company is now starting the partner project OpenAI Data Partnerships works with various organizations for this purpose.
In this project, OpenAI focuses on both public and private data. The company emphasizes that it has Artificial general intelligence (AGI) wants to develop its models as safely as possible. To do this, they need to understand all the training data as well as possible and this requires as diverse data as possible.
There are already a number of collaborations. For example, OpenAI has some Icelandic partners to make GPT-4 work better in Icelandic.
Above all, OpenAI’s wish list includes data, which the company itself describes as “sets that represent human society and that are not easily publicly available online.” The form in which this data is passed on is less important. The company has the resources to convert most formats into something usable.
Although this may increase in the future, there are now two ways to join OpenAI data partnerships:
In the meantime, OpenAI is of course not standing still. For example, the latest version of GPT-4 can now multitask in a single conversation that has no name.
