US company Google is in talks to invest hundreds of millions of dollars in Character.AI, while the fast-growing AI chatbot startup is seeking capital to train its models.
This was reported by Reuters, as reported by Ukrinform.
As mentioned, the investment, which could be in the form of convertible currencies, will deepen Character.AI’s partnership with Google, where it already uses Google cloud services and Tensor Processing Units (TPU) to train its models.
The Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) is an application-specific integrated circuit designed to accelerate AI calculations. It was developed by Google specifically for machine learning of neural networks.
Google and Character AI did not respond to requests for comment.
Said to be founded by former Google employees Noam Shazier and Daniel De Freitas, Character.AI allows people to interact with virtual versions of celebrities, such as singer Billie Eilish or anime characters, while creating their own chatbots and AI assistants.
The startup is free to use but offers a $9.99 per month subscription model for users who want to skip the virtual queue to access the chatbot.
As Ukrinform reported, Microsoft briefly banned its employees from using ChatGPT, specifically disabling access to it on corporate devices.
