Gaza’s health ministry reported the death of another baby in the intensive care unit of al-Shifa hospital, the third death since the fuel that powers the center’s emergency electrical generators and keeps its incubators running ran out on Saturday.

Another 36 babies were admitted to the hospital, the largest in the Gaza Strip, a center surrounded by Israeli military forces.

On Saturday, the Israeli military announced that it would facilitate the evacuation of premature babies from the hospital on Sunday, but this has not yet happened.

Meanwhile, medical workers said Israeli snipers are shooting anyone they spot near the hospital.

About 14,000 civilians are sheltering there without electricity, water or food.

“They are outside, close to the doors,” one displaced person, Ahmed al-Bursh, told Al Jazeera.

Gaza’s deputy health minister, Munir al-Bursh, confirmed the presence of snipers and said they had targeted the hospital.

“We can’t stick our heads out the window,” he said.

The Israeli military insisted it did not attack the hospital but confirmed intense fighting near the medical center, claiming Hamas was using it as a command center.

Hamas on Sunday denied reports that it had rejected 300 liters of fuel from Israel intended for use at the hospital.To TO Shifa from Gaza.
