It took Google many years to realize this use the keyboard horizontally with mobile device It wasn’t very practical as it took up most of the screen and left a painful amount of space for the app we were writing.

Google keyboard, the latest beta version of Gboard, leverages an already existing resource to make landscape typing much more bearable: automatically switches to floating modenow we can move and resize it to see where you type.

Keyboard floats horizontally

It’s not very common, but when an app asks us to enter text when the mobile phone is in landscape orientation, the experience isn’t very pleasant. The keyboard then takes up almost the entire screenWe can barely see the application we’re typing in, and the keys are also pretty far apart.

But the next time you have to do this on an Android mobile phone, you will be surprised by this: Gboard automatically switches to scrolling landscape mode. Gboard’s floating mode has been with us for a few years, but until now it wasn’t used by default when typing horizontally.

The advantage of floating keyboard is: you can move and resizeTouch the line that appears at the bottom and drag its edges. In this way, the interface of the application you are typing in will not be closed as you can see “what is behind” by moving the keyboard from one side to the other.

Another advantage is The size is more similar to what Gboard has When used normally vertically, you don’t need to relearn the spaces between the keys.

This news seems active For anyone with Gboard betaAfter being in the testing phase for several months, you can download it from APKMirror. If you don’t like the floating keyboard and prefer to keep the previous mode, you can change it by pressing (four-square button) from the toolbar. Floatingif it is active it will disable it and vice versa.
