Android smartphones will need more RAM to support AI

ChatGPT was the starting signal for a Artificial Intelligence which now promises to revolutionize computing as we know it, from the business to the consumer sector. The latter includes Android smartphoneswhich could require a significant increase in the amount of RAM to support AI at the levels to be achieved.

The fact that artificial intelligence has become so important means that all major manufacturers are trying to support it at least in their high-end processor models, so the SoC Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Dimensity 9300 and Exynos 2400 have chips or components dedicated to it.

However, the processor may not be the only one that needs improvement, because according to the Revegnus leakwhich operates under the account name @Tech_Reve on X,”Devices with built-in AI and imaging capabilities require around 12GB of RAM” while “Devices with AI digital assistant features need around 20 GB of RAM“. This is a significant increase compared to the 8GB of RAM that is standard in consumption, and the 12 or 16GB of RAM that many high-end smartphones typically include.

According to the logic of the information provided by Revegnus, today’s high-end smartphones should have no problem supporting AI imaging if they implement the right SoC, but 20 GB of RAM or more for auxiliary functions is an amount that is not very common these days.

A report from Revegnus that Android smartphones will need more RAM to properly support AI

Artificial intelligence opens up the panorama in which the amount of RAM in Android smartphones can go up to ensure good support function. However, we also have to see how far artificial intelligence goes in the consumer market, as digital personal assistants promised to change the way we used computers and mobile phones forever, and we are still alive today thanks to IoT, because even Microsoft ended up removing Cortana from Windows.

It is clear that all the major ARM SoC manufacturers for mobile phones are moving towards artificial intelligence in order not to be left behind, but this does not yet guarantee a revolution in the consumer market and it is even possible that, like the mentioned personal digital assistants, it will eventually end up as another fad.

Despite everything, whether artificial intelligence succeeds in the consumer market or not, it is no less true that the technology around it has evolved a lot in recent years and that a lot of things will change, especially with regard to businesses and consumers.work environments.
