Generative AI is undoubtedly the technology hype of 2023. This does not automatically mean that the technology will be used on a large scale in the business world. Dell surveyed five hundred companies in Europe and the United States about their generative AI policies. The majority, 44 percent, have to admit that they are still in the early stages of the strategy and implementation process.
There is certainly no lack of enthusiasm for generative AI. 78 percent believe technology can have a positive impact on the organization. The biggest benefits lie in productivity, optimized processes and cost savings. 76 percent are ready to advance the adoption process and increase their AI savings. Companies hope to benefit from generative AI starting next year: 49 percent expect to see initial results within six months.
However, not every organization is equally positive. 37 percent say they doubt whether they want to use generative AI at all, and five percent worldwide are effectively banning it. The main points that cause doubts among organizations are security, technical complexity and data management.
These reasons are also cited as key arguments for developing models from scratch, although only ten percent of companies will do this. The majority rely on what the major cloud providers offer.
