He the recent announcement of Nothing Chats It’s certainly another sign that Nothing is a company that has chosen to go against the grain in many ways, to the point of making it one of its hallmarks. As you already know, they control the communication and the sale of their devices, they go beyond the most conventional ways, which, together with the peculiarities of their design, have made it a brand that has more and more users who follow the fan paradigm that we are used to seeing in other brands.
In general, when we talk about Nothing, we mean its devices, such as the Nothing Phone (2) introduced last July or the Nothing Ear (stick) that we tested at the end of last year. It makes sense, of course, because at the end of the day, we’re talking about a device brand that aims to provide a different approach to such a complicated market and in areas even saturated like smartphones, something that it plays with the experience of its founder Carl Pei, who was also the co-founder of OnePlus at the time.
However, this time we will talk about software, more specifically the recently announced application and that, at least for now, will come exclusively to the current revision of your smartphone. And as we’ll see below and I’ll explain the reason for qualifying it this way, it’s undoubtedly a surprising proposal that may not have much progress over time and that simply goes against the grain of the industry.
The announcement, the surprise is that, as we can read on his official blog, Nothing has announced Nothing Chats, an app that lets you use iMessage on your devices. Yes, you read that right, we are talking about Apple bringing an instant messaging service that is exclusive to its operating systems and devices to an Android smartphone. To do this, it will use Sunbird technology, a service that currently has an open waiting list and offers exactly that, bringing Apple’s instant messaging service to Android.
Basically, anything that involves expanding the reach of platforms for the good of the user is something positive, but in this case I doubt Apple will allow offering access to their service sending instant messages from devices, operating systems and applications that are not authorized for this purpose. And on the other hand, the current trend is exactly the opposite, i.e. pushing Apple to provide iMessage interoperability, which is something that Google has been pushing for some time and with the full application of the Markets Law of the European Union could be closer than we think.
