iPad Pro OLED is underway to restore sales

The iPad Pro OLED has once again come to the fore thanks to Korean Herald. The media has direct contacts with the South Korean production plants, where they assure that LG Display, the supplier of screens, will start production in February next year. They will be the first iPads with OLED panelswhich will undoubtedly give them a big improvement in image quality, contrast and color palette support compared to the Liquid Retina with IPS technology used so far.

Media reports say production has been pushed back three months earlier than expected, so these OLED iPad Pros could be available next spring. And it seems necessary. The decline in e-tablet sales has been significant since the recovery during the COVID pandemic. Although Apple continues to dominate the sector, sales have fallen and its tablet division’s performance was the worst in recent quarterly results.

The new iPad would be sold in two sizes that would define the versions, 11 and 13 inches, and with the attractiveness of light diode technology as a banner. OLED-AMOLED is massively used in mobile phones, but in tablets they are usually reserved for the high end. Its use in iPads would eliminate the need for backlighting in mini-LED models, with benefits in contrast ratio, deeper blacks, greater support for the main color palettes, lower power consumption and generally better image quality. But they are more expensive… which could raise the prices even more in the high-end of Apple.

Apple is reportedly looking around 10 million OLED iPad screens in 2024. LG is expected to supply around 60% of the OLED panels, while the rest will be up to Samsung, although it’s thought only for the 11-inch model. LG and Samsung are said to be finalizing price negotiations with Apple. This will affect its final price.

iPad Pro OLED wouldn’t just refresh the screens. Another change aims to improve performance and we are talking about chips of our own production Apple M3 which will represent another level leap in all parts, with 12-core CPU, 18-core GPU and 36GB RAM versions, and better energy efficiency thanks to the switch to 3-nanometer manufacturing processes that TSMC’s foundry will use in these chips.

We saw them recently in the new MacBook Pro. And here is one of the problems of how to improve sales. The company insisted that its premium tablets were a laptop replacement, but honestly, we don’t think that convinced most users. Simply put, Apple has an “enemy at home”. The new MacBook Pros are excellent, and below, the MacBook Air refresh leaves them at a price not much higher than an iPad Pro tablet with an OLED screen will cost.

Apple will try to convince employees with another new addition to the accessory lineup, which is important given Apple’s approach to laptop replacement. And it plans to offer a completely revamped Magic Keyboard with a larger trackpad to address the complaints of the current one, which should make the iPad Pro feel even more laptop-like than the current configuration.

No changes are expected in the cameras, imaging technology and sensors with a leading role for LiDAR. We are still thinking about the time frame spring 2024 for the launch of the iPad Pro OLED.
