A group of US Democratic congressmen introduced a bill on Tuesday aimed at… control the circulation of firearms and ammunition across the US border with Mexico.

An initiative called “Disarm the cartels” directs the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to “identify and dismantle transnational criminal organizations responsible for the export of weapons and ammunition from the United States to Mexico.”

The project includes expanding the collection and analysis of information on firearms recovered at crime scenes in Mexico. identify smugglers operating in the United States.

“For many years, American weapons have contributed violence, instability and forced migration across the Western Hemisphere”said Congressman Joaquin Castro, one of the promoters.

“The United States can and must do more to prevent the guns we produce from falling into the hands of criminal organizations that smuggle fentanyl and other deadly drugs into the United States,” Castro added.

For his part, Congressman Dan Goldman said that “both Democrats and Republicans recognize the threat posed by fentanyl trafficking, as well as smuggling and human trafficking.”

However, he criticized that Republicans are “ignoring the fact that the source of the cartels’ power lies in Hundreds of thousands of US-made guns are leaving the country. and they go hand in hand with the posters.”
