The best and latest GCam to date: A dash of Google Pixel 8 Pro on your Android

Independent developers continue to improve the Pixel Camera of the latest Google phones to work on almost any other Android. And the latest version is also the most versatile: modder Shamim arrives at a stable GCam 9.1. Worth to try; both on any Google Pixel other than the new generation and on other Androids that may not have a good camera app.

Based on my experience and after trying all kinds of changes to Google camera for several years, GCam can offer notable advanced features not available in the stock Android camera. Not all GCams will work on most phones, as everything will depend on the capture hardware (sensors, processor…) and the manufacturer’s software (Android version, brand layer…). With such a large group of “modders” or developers dedicated to changing apps, there is often no new version that has so many more advantages over the Google Pixel that hasn’t been ported to GCam form.

GCam very stable operation and full of possibilities

Not all Pixel Camera changes will work on most phones; Apart from installing GCam, you always need to check one by one that it turns on and does not freeze while recording an image. Moreover, It is recommended to move through the menus and perform checks with recorded images to ensure their stability.. Are they of good quality? Did GCam implement Google Pixel processing or save the photo without any noticeable improvement?

We’ve been testing stable version 10 of Shamim’s GCam 9.1 with very good impressions. The process was adequate on the different phones we installed it on: from the Google Pixel to the OPPO or Nothing. Most advanced options work properlyor even manual capture settings, which are officially only available on the Google Pixel 8 Pro. We did notice some forced shutdowns, but nothing that will hinder regular use.

Manual adjustments were something we really missed in Google camera; The fact that these are finally available on the Pixel 8 Pro (and can be expanded to others thanks to GCam) is excellent news; As long as they support the latest camera APIs). A good portrait mode, which depends on the correct operation of the mobile phone (not all Androids can implement this effect), night mode, digital zoom compensated by artificial intelligence, which generally gets by without excessive pixelation, and a huge number of additional settings provided by Shamim and others developers. It even supports XML configuration files.

To test this stable version of GCam 9.1, just go to Celso Azevedo’s page and download the APK. As we said, it is probably not compatible with all mobile phones: in principle, a minimum of Android 12 is required.
