OpenAI will temporarily stop selling ChatGPT Plus subscriptions. Due to the increasing number of users, the maximum capacity was gradually reached.

Immediately tweet Sam Altman announced that OpenAI will temporarily stop accepting new registrations for ChatGPT Plus. This is a paid version of the popular chatbot that gives you faster access to new features, faster loading times and is (usually) always available. Ironically, the reason the subscriptions are temporarily no longer being sold is because capacity is reaching its limits.

OpenAI launched the Plus subscription worldwide in February, at a monthly price of around 23 euros including VAT. The company wanted to get ahead of the rapidly growing user base. During peak times, paying users are given “priority” on the servers so that the chatbot remains accessible to them. The number of subscribers has grown so much that the capacity can no longer cover it.

You can put yourself on a waiting list to be notified when the subscription ends. Nothing changes for those who already have a subscription. The free version also continues to work, but you have to accept occasional failures.

Last week, ChatGPT was disabled for all users, including those who pay. This turned out to be the result of a malicious DDoS attack, OpenAI itself admitted.
