Israeli Ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan rejected this Thursday the resolution approved by the UN Security Council which calls for an urgent and broad humanitarian pause in the Gaza Strip and says the measure is “detached from reality and makes no sense.”
“Regardless of the decision of the Council, Israel will continue to act in accordance with international law, while Hamas terrorists will not even read the resolution, much less abide by it,” Erdan wrote via the social network X (formerly Twitter).
“It is unfortunate that the Council continues to ignore, not condemn or even mention the Hamas massacre of October 7 that led to the war in the Gaza Strip. “This is truly shameful!” – the ambassador added, warning that “Israel will continue to act until Hamas is destroyed and the hostages are returned,” regarding 239 hostages taken during the Islamist group’s attack on Israel, which killed more than 1,200 people.
“Hamas Strategy deliberate deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and increase the number of Palestinian casualties to motivate the UN and Security Council to stop Israel,” Erdan condemned as the number of deaths in the enclave due to Israeli bombing since October 7 exceeded 11,300.
The resolution adopted this Wednesday by the Security Council calls for establish “urgent and broad” humanitarian pauses in hostilities for a “sufficient number of days” so that humanitarian aid can reach the Gaza Strip for the sake of civilians “and especially children,” and so that wounded infants and their caregivers can be evacuated.
The UN’s highest executive body approved the resolution proposed by Malta with twelve votes, none against and three abstentions: those of the United States, Great Britain and Russia who have veto power.

The text also calls immediate and unconditional release of hostages taken by Hamas, although it does not include an explicit condemnation of attacks by the Palestinian Islamist group on Israel, which has been criticized by the US and UK.
This is exactly what US Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield said. “I couldn’t vote for a text that didn’t condemn Hamas.” and while she was “disappointed” by it, she stressed that it was the first resolution passed that “mentioned” her name.
Before the vote, Russian Ambassador Vasily Nebenzya tried to request the text “Immediate, lasting and sustainable humanitarian truce” this leads to a cessation of hostilities,” but failed due to the US blockade, despite five positive responses.
In response to the adoption of this resolution, the representative of the Israeli Foreign Ministry called on the Security Council and the international community demand “the rapid release of all Israeli hostages, as provided for in the resolution.”
“Israel hopes that the Security Council unequivocally condemn Hamas and consider the need to create a different security reality in the Gaza Strip. There is no room for a lasting humanitarian truce while 239 kidnapped people are in the hands of Hamas terrorists,” wrote spokesman Lior Hayat via the social network X.
