In 2018, Google introduced the Titan security key to protect against phishing attacks. However, they now support password keys for all Google accounts; This is an easier and more secure way to sign in to accounts without a password. Access keys use FIDO2 credentials and encryption for secure authentication.

Titan’s new Security Keys are now available and can store over 250 different access keys. The new dongles will replace Google’s existing USB-A and USB-C Titan dongles.

Once you create a password for your Google Account, you can set a basic PIN to your new Titan Security Key. This code can be used instead of a password to securely sign in to your Google Account in the future.
The hardware chip used to create Titan security keys contains firmware developed by Google to ensure the integrity of the key. This makes it easier to verify that the keys have not been tampered with.
The switches are resistant to water, dust and damage, making them ideal for long-term use as they require no batteries or moving parts.
The new Titan Security Keys are priced at $35 or $30 on the Google Store and come with a USB-C or USB-A connector. There is also NFC in both versions for connecting cordless phones and other mobile devices. Additionally, in 2024, Google and industry partners will begin distributing 100,000 of these new security keys to high-risk individuals worldwide.
