Integrator PNY, which you’ll know for its graphics cards, has joined the list of manufacturers that have committed to SSD Gen5, the fastest storage units on the market. And it does so with a unique design model for its double fan.

You already know that PCIe Gen5 SSDs are delaying their arrival on the market for various reasons, and the giants in the sector (Samsung, WD or Kioxia) have postponed their launch. The first reason is commercial, to provide an outlet for Gen4 accumulated in the large inventory of NAND flash. The second is more technical and related to the high temperatures reached by new generations of SSDs.

PNY didn’t cut a single hair and installed a spectacular active cooling system a large heatsink and two fans at the ends. It’s also mentioned that the SSD will take full advantage of Windows’ DirectStorage feature, although only a few games currently support it.

Otherwise, it’s an M.2 2280 format drive, NVMe support and a Phison PS5026-E26 controller. It also has a RGB lighting systemwhich will require a 9-pin USB connector to customize colors, lighting effects, and fan speed using PNY’s Velocity-X software.

The manufacturer will launch its Gen5 SSD in white and black finishes with 1 and 2 TB storage capacity variants and priced from 179 dollars. They will be available at the end of this month with a five-year warranty.
