OpenAI fires CEO Sam Altman

OpenAI’s board of directors fired CEO Sam Altman, the company announced in a blog post. The sudden departure came after the board said Altman had lost confidence in the company’s management and was not honest in his communications. Altman was also removed from the board.

“Mr. Altman’s departure followed a deliberative process in which the board concluded that he had not been consistently forthright in his communications with the board, which impeded the board’s ability to fulfill its responsibilities,” the blog post said. The statement was included. “The board no longer has confidence in his ability to continue leading OpenAI.”

Altman has been the public face of OpenAI at events like the recent DevDay, appearing on stage alongside Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, making his departure even more shocking. In a sense, he served as the face of artificial intelligence in general and testified about it before Congress.

“I enjoyed my time at OpenAI,” Altman wrote in all lowercase letters on X (formerly Twitter). “It changed me personally and hopefully it changed the world a little bit too. Most importantly, I enjoyed working with such talented people. I’ll tell you later what happens next.”

Mira Murati, OpenAI’s chief technical officer, will take over as interim CEO, effective immediately. Murati joined the company in 2018. The company plans to search for a new permanent executive. Greg Brockman, co-founder of OpenAI, is stepping down as chairman but will remain chairman of the company, reporting directly to the CEO.

OpenAI is the undisputed leader in generative AI, valued at over $80 billion. Some of that investment came from Microsoft, which has invested billions of dollars in the company and is using OpenAI’s ChatGPT technology to power artificial intelligence at Bing and Copilot.

“We have a long-term partnership with OpenAI, and Microsoft remains committed to Mira and her team as we deliver the next era of artificial intelligence to our customers,” a Microsoft spokesperson told Tom in an email. Hardware.

Besides ChatGPT, which took the world by storm last year, it also creates the DALL-E image generator.

Altman is involved in several other products, including Humane, which recently announced it would launch an artificial intelligence company. Additionally, he is involved in WorldCoin, a cryptocurrency that also serves as proof of identity, and is reportedly in talks with designer Jony Ive and SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son about creating off-the-shelf AI hardware.
