Several major US companies, including Apple and Disney, will stop running ads on the X platform, formerly Twitter, after company owner Elon Musk approved an anti-Semitic post on the social network.

According to Ukrinform, this situation was reported by The Guardian.

According to reports in the US media, Lionsgate film studio said that it would also suspend advertising on X, as did Warner Bros, Paramount, Sony Pictures and Comcast/NBCUniversal. Disney also announced the suspension of advertising on the social network.

The iPhone maker was one of the largest advertisers on the social network, spending up to $100 million annually as of November 2022, according to US media. The company announced it was “drastically stopping” advertising on X in December 2022, but advertising analytics data points to a different financial story.

Apple also reported that its ads appeared alongside tweets praising Adolf Hitler and the Nazis.

IBM Corporation, also one of X’s largest advertisers, announced that it would stop advertising on X. The company made the decision in response to a report by liberal organization Media Matters that found ads for IBM and Apple were shown alongside hate speech. In response, Musk called Media Matters a “bad organization.”

“IBM has zero tolerance for hate speech and discrimination, and we immediately suspended all advertising on X while we investigate this completely unacceptable situation,” a company spokesperson said.

Billionaire Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk stood by a tweet Wednesday accusing Jews of hating white people, writing that it was the “real truth.” On Friday, the White House condemned Musk’s comments, calling them “disgusting.” In response to Musk’s tweets, a coalition of more than 150 rabbis called on Apple, Disney, Amazon, Oracle and other companies to stop advertising on the social network.

Researchers also documented an alarming increase in the number of anti-Semitic and racist posts Musk made on the social network.

As reported by Ukrinform, the communications department of the European Commission has appealed to all administrative services of the EU with a request to stop the display of advertising on social network X due to concerns about the spread of disinformation.

Previously, Elon Musk confirmed that the value of social network X (formerly Twitter) was less than half of the $44 billion it paid last year.
