The company said Altman “was not consistently forthcoming in his communications,” which hindered his ability to perform his duties.
Altman, 38, is said to have helped launch OpenAI, which is behind ChatGPT, the world’s most popular AI chatbot.
Altman is one of the most famous names in the artificial intelligence industry.
In a statement, the board thanked Altman for his contributions to the company, but they believe OpenAI needs new leadership.
