The MSF statement said MSF attempted to evacuate 137 people, including Palestinian MSF staff and their families.

He detailed that this morning, at 9:00 am local time, an MSF convoy of five vehicles, all with clear MSF markings, including on the roofs of the vehicles, with 137 people, including Palestinian MSF staff and their families, including 65 girls and boys left MSF facilities (guest house, office, dispensary located near Al-Shifa Hospital), heading south from the Gaza Strip to a safer location.
The NGO noted that people have been under fire since 11 November in ongoing fighting, and MSF has since made repeated calls for their safe evacuation.
Doctors Without Borders noted that “two parties to the conflict (Israel and the Islamist group Hamas) have been informed of this movement.
“The convoy followed the route specified by the Israeli army and arrived at Salah al-Din Street along with other civilians who were trying to leave the area.”
MSF said the convoy reached the final checkpoint near Wadi Gaza, “which was overcrowded at the time due to extensive screening of Palestinians by Israeli forces.”
“Despite the information given to the Israeli army, they were not allowed to cross the checkpoint for several hours. Later, our staff heard gunshots, which caused them to turn around out of fear and return to the MSF center, located about 7 km from the checkpoint.”
Upon his return, MSF reported that between 15:30 and 16:00 local time the convoy was attacked on Al-Wehda Street, near the intersection with Saeed Al Aas Street, close to the MSF office.
“Two MSF vehicles were deliberately hit, killing one MSF staff member and injuring another.”
The agency has issued a new appeal to urgently allow the evacuation of its staff, as well as thousands of other people trapped by the fighting and living in dire conditions in northern Gaza.
“We call for an immediate ceasefire, which is the only way to create corridors for the safe evacuation of trapped civilians.”
