Microsoft will soon give administrators of companies running Windows 10 a choice in how they handle optional updates within their organization. This way they can easily check the schedule and specifications.

The Enable Optional Updates feature will soon allow administrators to control the timing and specifications of optional Windows 10 updates within their organization. This new policy is part of the November update for Windows Business customers.

Keep options open

This new policy has been available for Windows 11 since August, but is now coming to Windows 10. When administrators use this feature, they can decide how optional updates are made available to users in their company or organization.

You then have three options to choose from:

  • (including CFR) – This will automatically provide users with the latest non-security updates including Controlled feature rollouts
  • Receive optional updates automatically – This will automatically provide users with the latest non-security updates
  • Users can select optional updates – Let users choose which optional non-security updates they want to install

Microsoft also notes that all optional quality updates take into account the optional quality updates that have already been configured. This new policy can be configured as GPO (GPO) or as Configuration service provider (CSP).

Earlier this month, Microsoft also brought Copilot to Windows 10. The predecessor of Windows 11 still requires less storage space than the latest version.
