May it be something more? Seagate launches its new Exos Corvault 4U106: a massive data storage system with a capacity of up to 2.5 PB.

Seagate is launching a new high-capacity block storage system: the Exos Corvault 4U106. This system has a capacity of 2.5 PB or approximately 2,560 TB. The storage specialist targets data centers where high capacity and high density are a priority. As the name suggests, the system has a footprint of 4U. Seagate claims the solution is thirty percent more efficient, but doesn’t complete that sentence, so we don’t know what it’s being compared to. This thing is probably pretty energy efficient.

The Exos Corvault 4U106 is available in a 2PB configuration with classic CMR drives. You can also fill the device with HAMR drives for an additional 2PB or the maximum capacity of 2.5PB. HAMR, short for Heat-assisted magnetic recordingis a technology that enables higher data density on hard drives. The drives themselves are from Seagate’s Exos range, with the most extreme drive currently available with a maximum capacity of 24TB. That will probably change soon, as competitor Western Digital recently launched a 28 TB hard drive.
