Nearly all of OpenAI’s employees have followed former CEO Sam Altman and threatened to move to Microsoft unless the company’s current leadership resigns.
This was reported by Bloomberg, as reported by Ukrinform.
More than 700 of artificial intelligence (AI) company OpenAI’s 770 employees signed a letter to management on Monday saying they “cannot work with or with anyone who lacks competence, judgment, and care” about OpenAI’s mission and its employees.
In the letter, the signatories called for every member of management to resign and for Altman to be reinstated as CEO; otherwise, employees could defect to Microsoft.
OpenAI staff emphasized that Microsoft had assured them that there were positions open for all AI workers.
On the eve of the letter’s publication, many OpenAI employees shared the same message on social network X with the text “OpenAI is nothing without its people,” to which Altman responded with a heart emoji.
He is also the CEO of Salesforce Inc. Marc Benioff offered on Monday to immediately hire researchers who leave OpenAI positions. He added that Salesforce will provide appropriate compensation to any OpenAI researchers.
The board of artificial intelligence company OpenAI has reportedly ousted Sam Altman as CEO due to a loss of confidence in his ability to lead the company.
The company said Altman “was not consistently forthcoming in his communications,” which hindered his ability to perform his duties.
Microsoft announced on November 20 that it had hired former OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and co-founder Grek Brockman.
