Social network X sues Media Matters for libel over anti-Semitic content

Social media company X filed a lawsuit against a media watchdog group on Monday. Media mattersclaiming the organization defamed the platform after publishing a report alleging that advertisements from major brands appeared alongside posts promoting Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party.

X, formerly known as Twitter, has been the subject of growing outrage since Media Matters published a report last Thursday, prompting IBM, Comcast and other major advertisers remove your advertising from the platform in response.

The report also comes a day after X owner Elon Musk agreed with a post on the platform that said: falsely claimed that Jews incited hatred of whites.

In a lawsuit filed in Texas district court, X claims Media Matters ‘manipulated’ social media platform using accounts that follow exclusively large brands or users known for producing extremist content, and “resorted to endlessly scrolling and refreshing” the feed until he found ads next to extremist posts.

The Media Matters report distorted the typical X experience.”with intent to harm X and your business,” the company said in its lawsuit.

Media Matters President Angelo Carusone called it “frivolous” in an emailed statement and said: was “intended to intimidate and silence X’s critics.”

In an interview with ReutersCarusone said the nonprofit’s findings X’s comments are controversial that it has introduced security measures to prevent advertisements from appearing next to harmful content.

Social network only appeared next to hate content for one viewerwhich the company said was a media matter.

“Data trumps manipulation and accusations. Don’t allow yourself to be manipulated. Support X,” Linda Yaccarino, X’s CEO, wrote Monday.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said Monday that his office opened an investigation into the media case and that he is “extremely concerned” by allegations that the group manipulated X’s data. (RTS)
