Good news for the smartphone industry: After two years of constantly falling sales figures, positive growth is finally returning.

The market figures that Counterpoint published this morning will cause loud celebrations among smartphone manufacturers. Five percent more smartphones were sold in October than in October 2022. It was not until the summer of 2021 that the smartphone industry was able to record a positive growth rate again. The number of units sold also reached its highest level since January 2022.

The growth is mainly due to the Middle East and Asia, say analysts at Counterpoint. There are two brands in particular that have made a significant contribution. As usual, Apple made a big final push in the fourth quarter with the introduction of the new iPhones. But there has also been Huawei’s remarkable resurgence in the Chinese smartphone market.

Month of Change

October should be the month of turnaround for smartphone sellers. Counterpoint expects the positive growth to continue in the current quarter. We can’t expect these numbers until January, as the quarter runs until December 31st.

Then the market conditions could be thrown into disarray again. The last quarter of the year traditionally belongs to Apple and not Samsung. We are also curious to see whether Huawei will climb back up the rankings.
