The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has announced plans for Chandrayaan-4, a unique mission to the Moon. With the help of four spacecraft, they want to collect samples of the lunar regolith and deliver them to Earth.
The planned mission is similar to NASA’s plans to send soil samples from Mars. ISRO said the first rocket will carry two vehicles to the moon: a lander and a sample delivery vehicle to orbit.
They will most likely land near the site of the currently unused landing module of the Chandrayaan-3 mission. Then, two more devices will fly to the Moon with the second rocket, and these devices will remain in orbit around the Earth’s natural satellite.
The lander will collect samples of lunar rocks and transfer them to another vehicle, which will carry them into orbit around the moon. There, the samples will be transferred to the orbiter, which will fly towards our planet along with another device. The project can be implemented in the next 5-7 years.
