We tested the most controversial mobile phone of recent months: This is the Huawei Mate 60 Pro

There are many advantages to visiting China, and one of them is the possibility of getting ahead of European launches and being able to browse and touch phones that have yet to arrive here or directly, and may never arrive. So we had the opportunity to enter a Huawei store and see the Aito M5 (electric cars with the technology of the Chinese manufacturer) and at the same time get our hands on the most premium series of the house, the Huawei Mate 60 Pro family: let me tell you How was our Huawei Mate 60 Pro experience with this app?.

What makes the Huawei Mate 60 so special?

Huawei Mate 60 is not an ordinary phone: They represent the Chinese manufacturer’s return to 5G. But this comeback was made possible thanks to a huge sacrifice thanks to the bet on a variation of the Kirin 9000 processor, the company’s latest SoC with this technology, due to the United States’ limitation in producing them.

What they can do is change it; Something they actually did with this mysterious and controversial Kirin 9000S chip with a 5G modem, using allegedly unauthorized SK Hynix RAM modules produced with 7 nanometer lithography. So yes, Huawei Mate 60 has 5G but it hurts them: They integrate a less powerful processor and an architecture that resembles the current middle class, and not the historically familiar flagship. Of course, the trio has at least 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage (base 16/512GB in the case of Pro+).

The Mate 60, Mate 60 Pro and Mate 60 Pro+ feature Kirin 9000S SoC and run HarmonyOS 4.0 as the operating system. This operating system is now in its fourth generation and is becoming even more mature, gaining customization possibilities, more emojis and differentiated notifications. Our experience with HarmonyOS 4.0 in just a few minutes In Chinese, on the other hand, beyond feeling fluid, colorful and quite intuitive when navigating the menus (which is commendable since the language difference is a significant disadvantage), this is not enough for a formed idea.

A. deja vu in design which is still premium

With the Huawei Mate 60, Pro and 60 Pro+ behind them, the truth is It’s hard to separate one from the other because beyond the fact that the first one is slightly smaller, they all share a rear, which is practically the same as that of the Huawei Mate 40 Pro.

So a generous Camera module located in the upper middle as the hero. The camera module’s bump protrudes but not too much, but the phone rests on top of it when dropped on a surface.

In this sense, they leave behind the paint patterns of the previous generation camera module, which we had the opportunity to test on the Huawei Mate 50 Pro, with a simple black tone that suits it quite well. any of three Feels quality and solid, offers good gripThis is helped by the fact that the edge is less curved than the previous generation.

In terms of materials, aluminum and glass once again play the leading roles; However, Pro+ has a texture that mimics skin, which not only feels pretty good but also makes it more resistant to oily fingers. I had all three models and It was all a little overwhelming for me.but they exceed 200 grams. And it’s the smallest in the family, not small at all: It has a 6.69-inch panel, compared to the others’ 6.82.

The foreground is where the differences between Pro and non-Pro, and compared to previous generations, are most appreciated. Thus, while the flat Mate 60 stands out with its perforation, the Pro models leave the cameras and sensors visible. Come on, goodbye notch.

More details of the screens. They are of the OLED type with Huawei Kunlun Glass 2 protection, have a resolution of 2,720 x 1,260 for the Pro (2,688 x 1,216 for the Mate 60), an adaptive refresh rate of 1 to 120 Hz (LTPO). These are good figures for a high-end model, but they are not the most ambitious figures on the market. In the minutes we tested it and with the artificial lighting of the store, it seemed to us pointed out ways in terms of experience and clarity.

A little more detail. The Mate 60 has satellite connectivity, which could come in handy in places where coverage is poor, and it has an ambitious photography proposition that aims to improve on the previous generation’s excellent offering. The Pro battery also takes a step forward, reaching 5,000 mAh and 88W fast charging.

probably one of the three Landing in Europe is the Huawei Mate 60 Proleaving its little brother and the Pro+ stranded. We expect a deeper and more comprehensive analysis.
