SpaceX added even more satellites to its growing Internet megasatellite Starlink on Monday night (Nov. 27). A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carrying 23 Starlink spacecraft lifted off from the Florida Space Force Station in Cape Canaveral at 23:20 on Monday (04:20 GMT on 28 November).
The first stage of the Falcon 9 returned to Earth for a vertical landing approximately 8.5 minutes after launch. He touched down on the Just Read the Instructions drone sitting in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Florida.
Meanwhile, 23 Starlink satellites are scheduled to be deployed into low Earth orbit (LEO) approximately 65.5 minutes after launch from the Falcon 9’s upper stage. The Starlink network, which provides Internet service to people around the world, currently includes more than 5,000 operational spacecraft, according to astrophysicist and satellite tracker Jonathan McDowell.
But this number continues to grow and will likely continue to grow for the foreseeable future. SpaceX currently has approval to deploy 12,000 Starlink vehicles to LEO and has applied for approval for an additional 30,000.
