A user writing about his issue on the Google forum reported that his Google Drive files “suddenly disappeared” and warehouse back to May 2023. So everything added in 7 months has disappeared. Any changes made to folders and files that already exist during this date will also be reverted. There are no files in the recycle bin either.

Since the issue surfaced, the user has taken “several steps” to recover their Google Drive data but nothing has been fixed. Since then, reports have come in from other users in the same situation. For example, one of them writes that all data has been deleted since 2019 from his table, which he has kept since 2016. Another case describes similar problems in a spreadsheet used for budgeting.

Meanwhile, the company asked users not to do this do not make any changes to their Google Drive as it may lead to unpredictable results. The common denominator of the problems in most, but not all, cases is the use of Google Drive for desktop computers on both Windows and Mac. Therefore, it is likely that the crash occurred somewhere in the desktop application.
