Foreign ministers of NATO member countries approved the first quantum strategy in the history of the Alliance that will strengthen the bloc’s cyber security.

According to Ukrinform correspondent, this was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at a press conference held in Brussels, where the meeting of foreign ministers of the Alliance countries was held.

“Ministers also discussed the importance of technological innovations. Today, Alliance members adopted the first quantum strategy in NATO history. Quantum technologies can strengthen our cyber security and capabilities,” the Alliance leader said.

According to him, the new strategy will make it possible to benefit from the opportunities provided by quantum technologies, while “it will also prevent competitors from using these technologies against us.”

Stoltenberg noted that at Tuesday’s meeting, foreign ministers also discussed “NATO’s deterrence and defense issue, its support to Ukraine and our partnership before the summit to be held in Washington next summer.”

It was also about China’s challenges to Euro-Atlantic security. “China is not our enemy. I welcome alliance members to engage in dialogue with Beijing on issues of common interest. At the same time, we must be clearly aware of the impact of China’s policy of pressure on our security,” Stoltenberg said.

He added that NATO would remain a regional alliance of Europe and North America, but that the bloc “needs closer cooperation with partners, including in the Indo-Pacific region.”

The two-day meeting of NATO foreign ministers started on Tuesday in the Belgian capital, Ukrinform reported; In particular, at this meeting the Alliance will confirm long-term support for Ukraine.
