Microsoft, the main shareholder of technology startup OpenAI with an estimated stake of 49%, will play the role of an observer without the right to vote on the new board of the company that created ChatGPT.

In a statement, the company confirmed the return to the post of CEO of OpenAI Sam Altman and Mira Murati as director of technology and Greg Brockman as president.

In addition, he ratified composition of the new board of the company, members include former Salesforce CEO Bret Taylor, former U.S. Treasury Secretary Larry Summers and Adam D’Angelo, co-founder and CEO of Quora and the sole survivor of the previous board of directors.

However, in addition to the board members, Sam Altman announced that Microsoft will be present on the OpenAI board of directors as “observer without voting rights.”

“We clearly made the right decision in partnering with Microsoft. and I am pleased that our new board includes them as non-voting observers,” he said.

In his first statement as CEO of OpenAI since being reinstated Altman expressed confidence in the company’s success highlighting OpenAI’s resilience in an uncertain and unprecedented situation.

“I’ve never been more excited about the future,” he said.
