AWS announces a number of new products for Bedrock during its re:Invent trade fair. The cloud provider invites companies to share certain data with models.

Bedrock plays a critical role in AWS’s AI strategy and the cloud giant made this very clear at its conference in Las Vegas. The name Bedrock is mentioned several times in every keynote. Bedrock is a kind of hardware store for generative AI. AWS provides LLMs built in-house and from approved third-party providers, but primarily allows customers to tinker with them themselves. The possibilities with Bedrock expanded significantly this week.

A first announcement is a fine-tuning of functionality. By exchanging company data with models in Bedrock, these models get to know your company better and this leads to results that also benefit you, is the general principle. Not every company is eager to share internal data with LLMs housed on public cloud provider servers. AWS ensures that your input to Bedrock never exceeds the limits of your AWS account.

The finely tuned models form the basis for the next new functionality: Agents for Bedrock. This feature allows you to program complex tasks and have your trained AI models carry them out. AWS also invites companies to share their data. When your model is trained on specific data, it can also perform much more concrete tasks.

Stay within the limits

Data protection is not the only point of discussion surrounding generative AI. The first model completely free of hallucinations has yet to be invented. AWS doesn’t claim to have found the perfect solution, but the new guardrails are intended to ensure that your AI models don’t go off the rails. A chatbot that provides false information or insults its own employees or, even worse, customers, is not good for your business reputation. With Guardrails you can create rules of behavior yourself and implement them in your AI models via Bedrock.

Catalog

Finally, AWS significantly expands Bedrock’s catalog. Anthropic was the guest of honor during CEO Adam Selipsky’s keynote. Anthropic’s new flagship product, Claude 2.1, will be available via Bedrock. AWS wants to show the world that they, not Google Cloud, are Anthropic’s preferred cloud partner. Ultimately, this $4 billion investment must deliver results.

In addition to Claude 2.1, a version of Metas LLaMA 2 with no less than 70 billion parameters will also be added to the catalog. AWS also announces new models from its own laboratory. The Titan family has been expanded to include two text generators and an image generator, which Dall-E struggles with. The icing on the generative AI cake is the introduction of Amazon Q, a chatbot that is intended to provide every employee with advice and support.
