The European Commission is demanding competing services that can work well enough with Microsoft’s current services.
Since this summer, the European Commission has opened an official antitrust investigation against Microsoft for the unfair combination of Teams in Office and Microsoft 365 in general. It is the first time in a decade that Microsoft has been involved in a European investigation.
As a result of the investigation, Teams has no longer been part of a Microsoft 365 subscription in Europe since October, but the European Commission has not yet completed its investigation.
According to Reuters, the EU has now forwarded a series of questions to Teams’ competitors to gather feedback. For example, the European Commission wants to know whether its services can work with Microsoft’s services and package prices with or without Teams.
The research committee also wants to know whether it is easy for customers to switch to competitive solutions, both for existing and new market entrants.
The EU plans to forward a list of comments to Microsoft in early 2024. Microsoft reiterates an earlier statement that it wants to work together on a solution to meet the needs of EU regulators.
