Starting December 4th, users of the free Evernote account will have new limits: one notebook and only fifty notes, or pay extra.

The note-taking app Evernote today offers a very generous free version with 250 notebooks and up to 100,000 notes. Those who use the service frequently can soon start paying or look for another service. The change comes after Evernote was acquired by Bending Spoons in 2022 and laid off employees earlier this year.

Starting December 4, users of the free Evernote program will only be able to create one notebook with fifty notes. If you exceed this limit, you will have to delete notes or pay.

Anyone who has more than fifty sticky notes or several notebooks today will not lose them. You can still view, edit, export, share and delete the notes with a free account

Only when you create a new note or an additional notebook will the message appear that you have exceeded your limit. The only option is to have only one notebook and bring the current number of notes under the limit of fifty. Only then can you create new ones.

Evernote emphasizes that the new change will only affect a few users. “In setting the new limits, we took into account that the majority of our free users fall below the threshold of fifty notes and one notebook,” the company wrote. “This leaves the day-to-day experience unchanged for most free users.”
