[Advertorial] 77% of respondents in our region expect physical security systems to be available in the cloud or hybrid within five years.
Genetec Inc. has released the results of its 2024 State of Physical Security Report.
This study, which examines companies’ security strategies, involved more than 5,500 physical security specialists worldwide, including 990 people from EMEA and the UK.
Cloud adoption is accelerating
The research shows that the use of cloud-based physical security solutions is now accelerating after a gradual increase. In EMEA and the UK, 77% expect their physical security systems to be cloud or hybrid in the next five years.
Additionally, 44%, up from 24% of global respondents last year, said that more than 25% of their physical security systems run in the cloud or that they use a combination of cloud and on-premise solutions.
Concerns about the cyber risks of cloud solutions are decreasing
Concerns about the cyber risks of cloud solutions have decreased significantly this year. Last year, end users surveyed cited potential cyber risks as the main reason preventing them from using cloud-based security systems. This year, such cyber risks were relegated to sixth place.
Hybrid future is preferred
The research also shows that most companies prefer a hybrid approach to physical security solutions, combining on-premises and cloud solutions. 60% of respondents say their company is striving for a security strategy that combines both. The transition to hybrid systems is already underway: 15% of end users say their organization currently stores video surveillance data both on-premises and in the cloud, a significant increase from the 4% survey reported last year.
Genetec also asked respondents about the use of new technologies. 22% of respondents say they currently have machine learning, AI, and/or Large Language Model (LLM) applications integrated into their physical security environment. When asked which security technologies are a priority, 36% say it is access control, 33% say cybersecurity tools are a priority, and 28% say it is video surveillance.
