District Judge Donald Molloy of the US state of Montana blocked the execution of the decision to ban the activity of TikTok due to the sharing of short videos.

According to Ukrinform, BBC reported on this issue.

In May 2023, Montana became the first state in the US to approve a TikTok ban, which will go into effect on January 1.

However, a week after the local authorities’ decision, the Chinese company ByteDance filed a lawsuit against the application for sharing short videos.

U.S. District Judge Donald Molloy recently agreed with TikTok’s claims, saying the lawmakers’ decision “violates the state Constitution in several respects” and “exceeds state authority.”

TikTok told the BBC it was pleased to see the “unconstitutional law” rejected.

In response, the state attorney general’s office said it was considering next steps “to uphold the law that protects Montanans from having their data acquired and used by the Chinese Communist Party.”

The state of Montana, which has a population of just over one million, is said to have banned the app on government devices last December.

According to TikTok, 150 million American users have already installed its app for sharing short videos.

As reported by Ukrinform, Montana Governor Greg Gianforte signed a law banning the activities of the Chinese company TikTok in the state in an effort to protect residents from possible intelligence data collection by China.
