Boeing to deliver first jet bombs to Pentagon by year’s end GLSDB (Small Diameter Ground Launched Bomb). But new weapons will arrive in Ukraine only next year.
GLSDB The GBU-39 is an experimental weapon that is a hybrid of a small-bore bomb and an M26 rocket engine. The maximum launch range is 150 km. Ukraine has highly mobile M142 HIMARS artillery missile systems for GLSDB use.
According to the Reuters news agency, Boeing will deliver the first batch of jet bombs to the US Department of Defense by the end of December. After that, the weapon will be subjected to a series of tests that will last several months.
Last year, Boeing appealed to the US government with a request to transfer the GLSDB to Ukraine. Since then, various dates have been announced for the start of deliveries. Now it is reported that long-range rocket bombs may appear in the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the first half of 2024.
