Windows 12, in June 2024?

Windows 12 will start in June 2024, according to a recent report by Chinese financial newspaper Commercial Times. Microsoft’s next operating system will usher in a new era of computing; “Computers with AI”.

Windows 12 is on the horizon, and perhaps sooner than expected. We’ve been talking to you about its development for over two years, and there’s a lot of information that pointed to a 2024 launch. We know that Microsoft has changed the development schedule for Windows and restored the three-year release cycle of major Windows versions that was already used in Windows 7 or Vista. Considering that Windows 11 came in 2021, the next one will be in 2024.

This development has not been confirmed yet, but there have been hints from the main actors that they have to see it through. Microsoft itselft showed the first sketch at the 2021 Ignite conference, where a screenshot of a non-Windows 11 system “leaked” due to a change in the user interface with a new floating taskbar and several changes.

That same month, those responsible for Windows Insiders also talked about it, stating the date in 2024, and last October the company’s CFO IntelDave Zinsner, mentioned a [gran] “Windows Update.”

When will Windows 12 be released?

Information from a Chinese financial magazine reflects statement by the presidents of Quanta and Acer, at a tech trade show in Taiwan this week. Both executives pointed out that Microsoft’s new system will be key to the new era of computing they intend to usher in, with artificial intelligence at the center of attention.

Windows 12 release

It remains to be seen how AI technologies shape up on PCs, as with what we’ve seen so far (Windows 11/10 Copilot) it’s hard to judge its relevance. And user income, even if Taiwanese managers believe so “It will be a good opportunity for the industry” to restore lost growth this year.

More than AI, we wish Microsoft had the guts to revolutionize its system with Windows CorePC. If you follow us regularly, you will be familiar with the name of this project, the spiritual successor to Core OS, which once excited us and which ended in nothing after saying goodbye to Windows 10X. However, Microsoft is aware of the need to modernize its platform and abandon older components that have been with us since Windows 95. The central idea would be to improve the operating system modular and customizable.

Windows CorePC would be separated by what they call “states”, which means it would be installed in multiple partitions and not one with write access like Windows has been. Similar to how other systems such as iPadOS or Android work, CorePC would divide system files, programs and user data into several read-only partitions, achieving faster updates, more stability and security.

Will Windows 12 be like this, or will it be a Windows 11 “tweak”? Will Windows 12 launch in June 2024?
