A good practice to get the best experience with your phone is to perform certain periodic maintenance tasks, such as freeing up space. Sometimes this problem is directly relevant, for example, when we have very few free gigs left, but in general it never hurts to get rid of duplicate files, applications we do not use or information that takes up and we do not benefit from. There are people looking for a cleaning application, but I can say this. No need for this on Android: Freeing up space in Files is more than enough.

Folders Android default file explorerThis way, I don’t need to install any more free or paid apps. With just four steps I keep my phone pretty clean without spending too much time, I’ll tell you how I do it.

Say goodbye to downloaded files

It is relatively common Download things we use occasionally and never use again, these can be PDFs, photos, videos, games, zipped folders… so it is worth taking a look from time to time and eliminating those that no longer serve us. Or directly, I usually delete them all.

This folder will take up a lot of space If we usually download games and apps from outside the Google Store using APKs, or if we have configured messaging applications such as WhatsApp or Telegram to store files on the unit, but we do this frequently, we will save ourselves.

As soon as we open the files, we enter the ‘Explore’ section of the submenu; here in the ‘Categories’ section’Downloads‘: you just have to enter, look at what’s there, and tap the three little dots to move it to the trash.

Are you sure you are using this application?

It is interesting to go into ‘Applications’ in the Explore section because we will be able to see the list of applications we have installed, sorted by the size they occupy, and a second option for this purpose, which seems more interesting to me: ‘Unused apps‘. Here, you’ll identify applications you installed and never heard from again that are ideal candidates for deletion.

Just tap the three dots on the right to see the menu where you’ll find the option. remove directly.

Put an end to large files

As soon as you open the application ‘Clean‘ is already good news in the subfield because by consolidating the main cleanups the process has been greatly simplified. So when you open it you will be shown options like ‘.Delete old screenshots‘, this could mean hundreds of images for someone like me who usually takes screenshots, but let me tell you something: they don’t take up very much space, so those megabytes won’t make a difference.

But the option immediately below does this: it’s called ‘Delete large files‘ and what it does is scan the phone for large files. If you tap ‘Select files‘ you can mark them to send to the trash. In my case this usually means even more than a gigabyte. Of course, I always take a look at it before deleting it.

Final result: empty the trash

I’ve mentioned throughout this article that delete or trash can be used interchangeably because that’s what actually happens when you delete something: it goes to the trash, which allows us to recover files for the next 30 days (they are then deleted). Again, If we want a total cleaning, it would be useful to delete its content..

We will see in detail how the internal storage is distributed by touching the arrow that appears in the drawing of our storage on the Main Files screen. There we will tap on the trash can and we will be able to see its contents, we will be able to select individual files to be permanently deleted or restored if we wish, but in my case what I chose to do is ‘All elements‘ and delete them forever.

It only takes a minute to perform these few operations and gives me I won’t waste my phone’s available storage spaceIt keeps it cleaner. Without going any further, every time I do these simple operations I free up 5 to 10 GB in just a few minutes.
