The Israeli Armed Forces have confirmed the start of a ground military operation in the south of the Gaza Strip.
Until now, Israeli forces have penetrated into the north of the enclave, although the air force has been bombing targets throughout the area since October 7.
“We intervened forcefully and thoroughly in the north of the Gaza Strip, and now we are doing the same in the south of the Gaza Strip, while continuing to build on our successes in the north,” said the Gaza Strip Chief of General Staff. Israeli Navy Herzl Halevi, according to a military statement.
“Yesterday and today we killed battalion commanders, members (of Hamas), and yesterday morning we started doing the same in the south of the Gaza Strip. It will not be less powerful, it will not have worse results, and Hamas commanders will know the Israel Defense Forces everywhere, with very, very strong power,” he said during an event with soldiers from the Gaza Division.
Israel’s chief military spokesman, Daniel Hagari, also confirmed that the ground offensive would cover “all areas of the Gaza Strip.”
“Where Hamas is, the IDF will come.”
