An American woman died Monday after being attacked by a shark while kayaking in the Bahamas, police said.
The woman, in her 40s and originally from Boston, was with a male relative when the attack happened near a resort in western New Providence, police said, adding that the couple was rescued by first responders.

“The victim was given cardiopulmonary resuscitation. However, he suffered serious injuries to the right side of his body, including his right hip area, as well as his right upper extremity,” police said.
They added that police said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
While fatal shark attacks are rare in the Bahamas, at least two other attacks have been reported recently.
According to police, on November 21, a 47-year-old German woman disappeared during a diving excursion in the waters of Grand Bahama’s West End after an encounter with a shark.
In September 2022, a 58-year-old American woman died after being attacked by a shark while snorkeling with her family in the waters of New Providence.
