According to Gartner, storage prices will rise again starting next year. If you still need to buy some DIMMs, don’t waste your time.

Gartner expects the chip market to grow again in 2024. Analysts forecast an industry-wide sales increase of 16.8 percent, after a slight decline this year. Finally, servers and PCs sold less quickly, although it is not surprising that the AI boom ensures that demand for GPUs is and remains high.

According to Gartner, the biggest difference this year compared to next is the increase in sales of all types of chips, including memory. This is good news for memory manufacturers, as overproduction in the sector has severely depressed prices and profits.

If the rumors that Windows 12 is actually planned for next year turn out to be true, it could boost the PC market and drive up demand for memory. The question, of course, is to what extent users still have a strong desire to upgrade.

In any case, new workloads (read: AI) are putting pressure on the storage market. According to Gartner, sales in the DRAM market will increase by 88 percent to $87.4 billion. For the end customer, this means one thing above all: more expensive storage. NAND flash and memory are closely related. This market is also experiencing a decline this year, but will more than make up for the loss next year.

If Gartner is right, now is the last moment to profit from the overproduction of storage and the associated higher prices. If you know you need DIMMs, you can order them before they cost more again.
