Revolutionary achievement that enabled the transmission of information over long distances 13 kilometersIt demonstrates the potential for high-speed data transmission over significant distances. To do this, engineers used a cable with multiple fiber optic cores and applied advanced multiplexing technologies such as spatial division multiplexing (SDM), wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) and multicore fiber (MCF) technology.

Previously limited to quad-core or shorter-haul cables, the successful combination of multi-band WDM and SDM in a multi-mode, multi-channel cable required the use of a dedicated multi-band MIMO receiver. NICT team demonstrates ability to transfer data quickly 22.9 petabits per secondA total of 750 WDM channels are obtained by using 293 wave channels in the S band and 457 channels in the C and L bands, covering the 18.8 THz frequency band.

Polarization multiplexed 256-QAM quadrature modulation played a crucial role in signal modulation, and the measured throughput of each core was between 0.3 and 0.7 petabits per second.

This achievement marks a significant step forward in the field of data transfer technology, opening up new opportunities for faster and more efficient communication networks. Innovations like these will define the future of global telecommunications as the demand for high-speed data transfer continues to grow.
