Lenovo introduced the Chromebox Micro, pocket compact for Chrome OS, which is not much bigger than a mobile phone and allows the wide versatility of installation anywhere. Although the Chinese firm introduced it for primary use in retail, it can also be used on the consumer desk or in the education segment.

Chromebooks are Google’s pinnacle of the PC market, but Chrome OS isn’t limited to laptops, and we’ve seen it in AIOs or mini-PCs like the one in question in the past. Lenovo introduced it in Experience with digital signage (DSE) and is specially designed for digital signage, kiosks, restaurant menu screens and other similar devices. That doesn’t mean it can’t be used for other applications.

Lenovo Chromebox Micro, compact and cheap

With dimensions 163 x 79 x 19.7 mm, the size of a current mobile phone, is a fanless solution and protected against dust. Its processor is a Intel N4500, a model with ultra-low consumption (only 6 watts) in the Mobile segment, manufactured by 10 nm processes, with 2 cores and 2 threads and a frequency of up to 2.8 GHz, integrated Intel UHD graphics and 4 MB cache. It won’t break performance records, but it should be enough for basic productivity and web browsing.

It is accompanied by 8 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal eMMC storage. Its connectivity isn’t bad for its size, featuring two USB Type-C ports, two USB Type-A connectors, an HDMI port, Ethernet LAN, an audio jack and Kensington lock support.

Lenovo has partnered with Instorescreen to sell 15.6- and 21.5-inch displays that fit the Chromebox Micro behind the main panel. This alternative option will likely only be available to businesses. Also for consumption if you really need an AIO it is better to buy a native “all in one” like HP Chromebase.

The Lenovo Chromebox Micro will be available internationally from the first quarter of 2024. It is priced at 219 dollars. An economical pocket-sized compact that lets you take Chrome OS anywhere and use it in a variety of use cases.

As an alternative, we remind you that there is a mini-PC menu under Chrome OS. We like the ASUS Chromebox 5 the most. Its price is higher, but so are its performance (Intel Alder Lake) and connectivity.
