Italian automaker Lamborghini struck a deal with unions on Tuesday to introduce a four-day work week for production workers.
This was reported by Reuters, as reported by Ukrinform.
FIOM and FIM-CISL unions described the signed agreement as “historic”; because this is the first time in the automotive industry in Europe that the company has not only reduced staff wages, but also increased them.
As a result, Lamborghini production workers working in two shifts will convert a five-day work week into a four-day week, reducing a total of 22 work days per year. Workers working three shifts, including night shifts, will have a five-day week and two alternating four-day shifts, a reduction of 31 working days a year, the unions said.
In terms of pay, the deal includes a 50% increase in variable bonuses paid to employees, as well as an increase in a one-off bonus of over €1,000 to be paid this month.
Lamborghini’s deal is part of wider changes to the framework contract under which production workers work. It is also envisaged to create 500 new jobs, increase annual wages and provide additional labor benefits.
As reported, in February, Automobili Lamborghini introduced two new sports cars, the Lamborghini Invencible and Lamborghini Autentica.
