China’s private space company Galactic Energy launched two new satellites, including a spacecraft with artificial intelligence and integrated surveillance and communications functions, on December 5 with the help of its commercial launch vehicle Ceres-1 Y9.
As reported by Ukrinform, CGTN reports on this issue.
The rocket was launched at 7.33am local time (1.33am Kiev time) from the Jiuquan Cosmodrome in northwestern China.
One of the spacecraft launched into Earth orbit is the Tianyan-16 meteorological satellite. Equipped with an updated microwave radiometer and high-speed laser communication module, it is able to constantly analyze the meteorological situation on the planet and instantly transmit the results to the control center on Earth.
The second is Starpool 01-A, a state-of-the-art artificial intelligence satellite that integrates real-time communications, navigation and remote sensing systems.
China plans to send more than 100 such devices into space in four years by 2027, combining Earth’s communications, navigation and remote sensing systems into a single system. Such a constellation in Earth orbit will allow expansion of observation areas and efficiency and effectiveness of analysis due to the integration of relevant processes.
The Ceres-1 launch vehicle is a solid-fuel, four-stage, light-class rocket with a diameter of 1.4 m and a length of 19 m, capable of launching a payload of up to 400 kg into low Earth orbit.
The current mission was the 11th flight of the Ceres-1 series rockets.
As reported by Ukrinform, the South Korean Ministry of Defense on Monday successfully conducted the third test flight of a solid-fuel space rocket as part of efforts to create an independent space surveillance system for North Korea.
As part of the test, a South Korean rocket launched a small Earth observation satellite into orbit at an altitude of about 650 km.
