Microsoft developers are asking users whether they want a more extensive settings menu in Windows 11 or not.
Since Windows 11 now wants to display all settings in an attractive manner, not all options are yet available in the new settings menu. Then it’s the only way to delve deeper into the old Control Panel menus. Microsoft now wants to remedy this. On its GitHub page, the software giant shows some models of what such an “advanced settings menu” could look like.
Now you want to test options through the community to see if anything needs to change. Microsoft makes it clear that the enhanced version will not replace the current Settings menu. Ultimately, it’s intended to give users more control over how their operating system works.
Only in Windows 11?
Microsoft has set itself these goals with the new settings menu:
Give developers more control over their system settings and advanced behavior
Help developers discover powerful settings that can improve their daily workflows and improve machine performance
Create a unified UI for managing/customizing new developer experiences on Windows (e.g. native file explorer + version control integration) so we can quickly develop new features/customizations
Work with the developer community to identify additional settings that are useful to input into the tool
Can be easily scripted and reapplied to new and/or existing machines
You can provide feedback on the GitHub page to make your voice heard. There’s a good chance that when the update is ready, it will only be rolled out for Windows 11. It builds on the current settings menu, which was fundamentally revised after Windows 10.
It is unclear whether it will also be available in Windows 12 at launch. The new operating system is regularly discussed and could potentially hit the market in June 2024.
