Early Thursday morning (Dec. 7), SpaceX launched another batch of Starlink Internet satellites into orbit. A Falcon 9 rocket carrying 23 Starlink spacecraft lifted off from the Space Force Station in Cape Canaveral, Florida, at 12:07 local time (05:07 GMT) for SpaceX’s 90th orbital mission in 2023.
As planned, the rocket’s first stage returned to Earth for a vertical landing approximately 8.5 minutes after launch. It landed on SpaceX’s “Just Read the Instructions” unmanned ship parked in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Florida.
According to the mission statement, this was the ninth launch and landing of this special launch vehicle. Meanwhile, 23 Starlink satellites are set to deploy to low Earth orbit approximately 65 minutes after launch from the Falcon 9’s upper stage.
Today, SpaceX is increasing its flight frequency record with each launch. The company’s previous annual target of 61 launches was set last year. But we should expect even more space flights next year: SpaceX officials said they plan to carry out 144 launches in 2024.
