More than half prefer to charge their smartphone every now and then, and one in ten charges wirelessly. These are some numbers from a survey by ITdaily on the charging behavior of IT professionals.

Whatever smartphone you own, sooner or later you will need to charge it. A dead battery is always unpleasant. Today, charging your smartphone can be done in different ways. Some manufacturers are making charging speed a fundamental issue and are bringing faster and faster chargers onto the market, and some devices no longer need a cable.

ITdaily investigated how IT professionals charge their smartphones. 195 respondents took part in the online survey. This led to the following results.

The slowest will be first

The majority of IT professionals say they have a slow charger. To be clear: We are talking about a slow charger if it has a charging power of less than 60 watts. 53 percent are below this limit and 36 percent are above it.

Charging speed also affects the way the device charges. 41 percent prefer to charge their device in one go using a slow charger. 12 percent do this occasionally, when the need is greatest, with a slower charger, 36 percent with a faster charger. We suspect that 36 percent feel more comfortable when the battery is low and there is a charger nearby.

It’s not surprising that the majority still have a slower charger. The two most widespread brands on the Belgian market, Samsung and Apple, have not yet become charging champions. Above all, the challengers to these established values ​​such as Xiaomi, Oppo and OnePlus are trying to make a name for themselves with their fast chargers.

Wireless

In recent years, wireless charging has also found its way into the smartphone industry; it is currently reserved for more expensive models. Wireless charging is not yet possible at the same speeds, but you have the convenience of no longer having to carry a cable around. You place your smartphone on a magnetic coil to charge the device.

Around one in ten (11%) have already decided to use wireless charging. Most of them charge the device in one go.
