The United States has announced sanctions against at least three Russian cyber groups affiliated with the FSB, as well as several individuals involved in cyber espionage activities against the United States.
This is stated in the official message of the US State Department published on Thursday, Ukrinform reports.
“The US government is taking a series of actions against Callisto Group, Star Blizzard, and COLDRIVER, which are affiliated with Russia’s FSB’s Center-18, for their long-running cyberespionage campaigns targeting numerous American entities and individuals,” the US agency said. .
It was also noted that the US Department of Justice issued an indictment in the case of Andrii Korints and Ruslan Peretyatka regarding their participation in the criminal hacker conspiracy against legal entities and individuals in the US. These people also tried to obtain data from British government officials, think tank researchers and journalists. The US Treasury imposed sanctions on them for their role in the Callisto Group’s activities.
Additionally, the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency published a guide explaining the technical details of malicious activities of Russian cyber groups.
At the same time, the U.S. State Department’s Rewards for Justice (RFJ) program announced rewards of up to $10 million for information that would help identify or locate individuals committing crimes at the behest of foreign governments. Korynets and Peretyatko are included in this list.
